Smile Greetings

Just purchased a not so classic 1984 Cutlass. It has the Buick 231 and TH200 transmission in it.

This is my first foray into GM products (always been a mopar guy), so I will need LOTS of help on getting this thing into the 13s. It is not long for this world as a V6 car, I know that much!!!

G-bodies are totally new to me so I'll do searches and ask lots of ?????.

Don't be so hard on yourself! First, I always liked that era of the Cutlass, and I think a lot of other people do, too. Second, your car is now 25 years old and so it is officially an antique! Good luck with it.

Welcome. We look forward to seeing pics. If you want to run 13s you are definitely going to need a built 350 or 403 or a mild 455. There are people here that can help you with that.

Seen this conversion discussed just recently in one of the forums, maybe the small block forum. check it out and good luck with the build. Your could always put a turbo or two on the V6. They do become very fast with that up grade. Check out the Buick Grand National. Always wanted to make a super fast V6

That gets expensive real fast ($$$$$) and I am not well versed on Turbos. Toyed around with a Turbo Coupe T-bird for a while, but am feeling the need for speed NA. (IE, cubes and big gear)

Unfortunately, I can remember these cars new, so I am OFFICIALLY denying the classic term for this car for completely shallow and selfish reasons. LOL!

My uncle had a 403 in a similar set up (G-body of indeterminate heritage, though) he called the "grocery getter" and it was quite fun to drive. That's the inspiration for this build.

I would really like to put a 455 in it, but have had a hard time turning one up locally. I'll keep looking and if not, I know of a local JY that has a 403 for $200.

Anyone know of a way to build the TH200 to handle the abuse of either one of those motors?

As far as I know most G body owners build the 200 4R before tinkering with the TH 200. I also believe the TH 350 is a common transplant in the G bodies when going with a SBO or BBO.
