Hello, I an brand new to the forum, I have a 1964 f 85 and I believe it is the 330 V8. Looking to replace the stock carb with an aftermarket. Just looking for something that will fit the stock intake and hopefully fit the air cleaner.
am I lacking any information.
Also links to websites to purchase the carb would be great. Thanks
S
I normally also suggest just rebuilding the original carb, but even I've had my butt kicked by the 4GC. I have no idea why - Qjets are easy for me.
In any case, be aware that the 4GC has a smaller diameter air horn than does any modern replacement carb. That means that nothing but another 4GC will work with the stock air cleaner.
Thanks for the response. Rebuilding got me in to this mess. I had it rebuilt about a year ago when I went through the interior. It started leaking fuel shortly after that.
im willing to give it another shot. Do you happen know where or who I can send it to get rebuilt again?
it is really tempting to grab a new holly or q jet as they are cheaper than a rebuild.
Mr Carburetor in Cedar Hill TX rebuilt my 4GC, 6 months ago. He did a great job 200$ kit included.
Keep your original base gasket if you have it. Re use it. Rebuild kits do not come with the original style more thick gasket. This will prevent heat soak on your carb.
Thanks Olds 64. I did pay around $200 for the kit plus some labor. I think my next step is to pull it off and locate the he fuel leak. Hopefully it will be a loose screw or a bad gasket.
