First post/My 72

I bought the car 6 years ago as a rolling chassis, front clip was off and had no engine and trans..originally a 350/350 car..bench seat with factory AC. I paid $700 and put it on my dads car trailer and towed it back to his garage. Since then I’ve rebuilt the entire interior, minus the dash..my dad picked up a set of strato buckets out of a 69 GTO and rebuilt them for me as a birthday present..I found a good deal on a decent condition center console online. I had the body and paintwork done, hunted down a set of 5 15” wheels and had them color matched..got all the trim for them. The car came with no drivetrain we looked for a couple years and one day a ‘70 delta 88 455/400 car popped up on our local C-list for $800..I was at work and my dad said he was going to look at it,I get a call about an hour later and tells me he’s driving it down the interstate and I owe him $700.haha
we pulled that drivetrain and I had the longtail th400 rebuilt and saved the drivelines so I can build the right length/yoke for my car. The 455 is now .030 over and crank got ground,I went with a -15cc speed pro forged pistons, compcams XE276HR Cam,alluminum roller rockers, new valves and hardened seats with a nice grind, high volume water pump, billet HEI..ARP studs and bolts..Milodon oil pump drive, performer aluminum intake, some ceramic coated headers and I’m a few pay days always from putting the carb on..AVS2 800.
hopefully in the next couple months I’ll get to have it on the road..I still need a converter, and I want to swap the gears and one legger out for either 3:23 or 3:42 and a posi unit.

Welcome to the site. Wow, you're only a hop skip and jump from Medford. John McNeel lives there and is an Olds parts hoarder. If you need stuff, he's your closest go to guy.

Love the color. Is this a Fremont car?

Just curious, is the 1970 bumper temporary?

Welcome. And NICE ride. LOVE that shade of green. When I was a kid and mom asked me what color I wanted to paint my bedroom, it was THAT. Unfortunately, Sherwin Williams wasn't able to add the metallic, but we got close.

Stunning car, it will cause whiplash out on the road especially if that pretty girl is driving it. Your dad is priceless. Sweet garage.

I think that’s the same John that Got the ‘70 Delta from me when I was done with it..he had a ton of Oldsmobile’s at his place. He traded me the correct notched valve covers and the AC/blower housing for my car. And the ‘70 bumper was on the car when I got it..I think someone replaced it after being hurt at some point. I might get the 72 bumper but the 70 doesn’t bother me now. And yes! It is a Fremont car

A Fremont car might still have the build sheet on top of the gas tank. Have you looked?

That 70 bumper is also for a Cutlass. Since your going with he 442 theme you should get the bumper with the cutouts for the exhaust. In my opinion that is one of the key details in a 442. You already have the emblems, hood and spoiler. I would put the correct bumper and grills to complete the look. It’s a great looking car either way, so build it how you want it.

Yeah I found what was left of the Fremont build sheet back when I dropped the tank to run new lines.

Your build sheet is an amazing document. I hope you have it well preserved. Your car started life as a base Cutlass. Fremont production was considerably less than Lansing but your VIN should read 3F87H2Z10989?. Although it went through final assembly on 12/16 of 1971 it has a relatively low production number. It was the 989? Cutlass built there. All sequences started at 100001 for each production facility. From what you've described and shown, the car is a far cry from its build sheet, but I'd keep that just for provenance. Does the cowl tag show a time build date of 12B or 12A?

Progress

It’s been awhile, life’s been crazy..but this quarantine has given me time to catch up on a some things! Finished my AC ducting..that was fun. Got the AVS2 800 in the mail. Have been playing with blinker issues..(faulty ground I’m thinking).

Welcome to CO. Great paint even though it is green (green is not my favorite color) but that looks awesome.

Grants Pass is my favorite car show place, best venue ever and the whole town comes out to watch on cruse night. I hope they still have it this year.....lost in the fifties ...Tedd
