455 cam thrust plate

Hey everyone. I'm rebuilding my 1973 455 for my 70 cutlass suppose to be an sx. whenputting it back together i noticed there's no thrust plate for cam and i don't remember taking one off, is this right? thanks in advance.

There is no thrust plate but the fuel pump eccentric is held in place by a bolt that rides against the front cover and stops forward movement of the cam

The helical gear and rotation of the distributor in an Olds motor pulls the cam back into the block. In addition, the lobes on the cam are slightly tapered so that the lifters also force the cam back into the block (the taper also causes the lifters to rotate slightly on each stroke to equalize wear). Note that roller cam 307s, which do not have this feature by design since the lifters cannot rotate, require the plate.

Awesome, thank you all, now i can finish it this week, and take it sideways. By the way i did put E heads on instead of the 73 junk j heads, thanks again.
