i just bought this car a few weeks ago. It was dormant for 30 years. I got it up and running and it runs great. Problem is that is needs a gas tank. The original has rust that is pretty bad. These tanks are hard to find. Anyone know of a tank that can fit other than the original? thanks much, Nick

Don't think anyone makes a tank specificately for the 58, TANKS, INC, makes a sort of universal one that can be made to work.

Have you taken yours to a radiator shop to see if they can boil it out and put a liner in it? It is a lot cheaper than a new tank. It would be less than the freight on a new tank from Fusick.

Be careful not to run it alot with that bad gas in it. Your tank could be messing up your gas and cause you more probs. Run more filters back to back to your carb..

Yeah, I took it to a trusted place and they said that it's too far gone to repair holes(which it has). And it is also dented. They don't do liners though. I checked with Gas Tank Renu. They coat the tank in and out with a durable solution and that is $375. I wasn't aware about liners though. I'll have to research that in my area(San Francisco). Does anybody know of a place in the Bay Area that does that? Thank you, Nick

Tank is already out of car. I'm running a can of gas from the trunk just to move the car around a few blocks to continue bringing it back to life. So far, so good

I would be wary of a shop offering you that service. Especially if you were already told the tank is beyond repair.

Here is a DIY coating that I've used before:


Once you get a good tank you might consider using this before installing it. I restored the tank on my 71 98 with this and it works great! Just make sure you wear a respirator, this stuff is nasty. Plus, do it at midnight in the country since you are in CA and will probably be taken away by the "green police" for using such nasty chemicals.

BTW, that's an AWESOME car!

Love it, course I am a tad biased to '58s!
I'd bite the bullet and spring for a new tank from Fusicks (you can Google it), you'll be glad you did in the long run. I was lucky and my car is near rust free, tank was excellent, just had the radiator shop clean it out. Mine'll be this color when done:

I found a tank that will work; 59 Chevrolet. With a few modifications, it works. Tank new is $130 with free shipping. I just can't see spending $500 at Fusick, plus shipping is $60 and there is still tax. This car is a driver, so can't see spending big bucks on a gas tank.
