Hello to this great Forum

My name is Lothar,
living in Zorneding near Munich Bavaria. Since 2016 i am a car owner of a 1969 Oldsmobile 442.

The car was registered in Oregon and stayed there till 2013. On the original invoice is written, that it would be a 4-4-2 holiday coupe v-8 (VIN 344879Zxx). I think the engine isn´t the first one. The Nr. above the coolant pump is 396021F (seems to be a 455 instead of the 400). The heads is marked with a "J".
Remarkable is that the first owner ordered a bench seat instead of the buckets and receive a credit of 68,46$.

Welcome to the site, nice car. A lot of these cars were equipped with a bench seat.

Welcome. Pretty car. The "Z" in the VIN indicates that the car was built in the Fremont, CA assembly plant. The engine is a replacement 455. The J heads are 1973-76 smog heads, so unfortunately this is probably a low-compression smog motor from the mid-1970s. As noted, the 1968-69 long stroke 400 motors were not Oldsmobile's best, and many were later replaced with 455s.

thanks for the replys and the useful informations. Despite of the "J" heads there is enough power for the Autobahn. Below the original invoice.

Ironically, the bench seat actually became a $900 extra cost option on the base model Chevy Impala in 2011-2013. Having outlasted the Ford 'Panther' platform (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car) by a year, the W-body Impala (2006-2016) was the last American car model on which a bench seat was available. The option was dropped when the new Epsilon body Impala came out in 2014 and the W-body Impala (re-badged the Impala Limited) went into limited production through the spring of 2016 for rental and law enforcement fleet sales only.

That said, you've got yourself a nice ride. I wouldn't worry too much about the 455 engine. It's rock solid and burns regular gas. Hey, at least they had the decency to drop another Olds engine into it instead of something like a Chevy 350.

thanks for the additional replys,
The maximum speed on the autobahn i drove was 80 mph yet. On this speed the olds is very calm. With 100 mph i think you can see decreasing the fuel gauge. Perhaps i will try it.
Remember: The Oktoberfest starts always on the second last week in September. The notion, that there are 6.000 people in one tent for drinking beer could be nice. As for myself I prefer a local beerfest.

Lothar,
I was stationed in Bad Tolz for 6 years with the Army, and I agree the Local Beer Fest were always better. It was great to go to Octoberfest ONCE, but it was just crazy crowded.

Wilkommen!

Ihr Olds ist super.

Ich bin drei oder vier mal nach Deutschland gegangen. In 2000 hab ich in Holzkirchen studiert. In 2001 hab ich in Alfdorf als Praktikant gearbeitet. I hab die Brauerei in Aying besucht. Leider hab ich Zorneding nie besucht.

Sorry, I haven't used my German in about 16 years.

Olds64,
That is right up the street from Bad Tolz, hope you visited Klosterbrauerei Reutberg while you were there. Some of the best beer I have EVER tasted.

Jim, I recall drinking the Reutberg Kloisterbrauerei beer. I have a one of their coasters in my collection at home. Unfortunately, I never got to visit the brewery. While German beers are definitely better than a traditional American lager I'm spoiled when it comes to beer since I brew my own.

The last time I was in Germany was around 2010. I was training U.S. Army soldiers in Grafenwöhr.

I am really pleased that you tasted local beers in Bavaria. So far as i recall, for more than 25 years the Flint Kaserne was closed. The relationship between city of Bad Tölz and the Flint Kaserne was very good. A tavern nearby Zorneding, called "Landlust" serve Reutberger beer.
thanks for the response.

Your Car looks really nice. Flint Kaserne actually closed in June of 1991. For me Bavaria was always the best part of Germany. The people are friendly, and the Beer and Food is great.
