Is it worth it?

I have a 1980 delta 88 Royale 2 door that was my dad's, and I was thinking of putting it back on the road. It's been sitting for 10 years. Is it worth restoring?

Depends on what you have to spend. Those are very nice cars (I had a 78 that I loved) but will never be highly collectible. I suspect after sitting for 10 years it is going to need a lot. If the costs are not really crazy, restore it, drive it and enjoy it. We would like to see some pictures.

If you are asking "will I make a profit restoring it?", the answer is no. These cars are not popular with collectors and very low mileage versions in excellent condition are hard pressed to sell for $3000. If you want to restore it for your own uses, go ahead, but don't plan on this being the retirement fund.

Define "worth it."

If you like the car, it has sentimental value, and you would enjoy driving it, then it's worth it.

If you want to sell it for more than you have into it, as Joe says, then it's not.

As for "putting it back on the road," that's not the same as restoring it. You can probably do that for a few hundred bucks, unless it's really far gone.

Welcome to ClassicOlds.

Was it stored indoors or parked under a tree someplace? If its been sitting outside for that long it could be pretty rough. Another factor is do you have the time, tools & skills (or desire to learn) to do most of it yourself, or will you be farming it out?

I bet it's a cool car. I think you should get it back on the road and rive it. Otherwise you will be like everyone else on the road and drive a Kia Soul or Ford Flex.

I drive a Ford Flex....but unlike the other sheeples, broadly boast of my Oldsmobile. Yes, get it road worthy and drive it

If it is not so much getting it mechanically road able, and you have the talent, do it. Then decide on restoration. Some states have no inspection for 80 vehicles, just make it safe.

I think Eric nailed it, if its something sentimental then its worth making it a driver once again. Just don't expect to bring a huge check to the bank if you decide to sell it in the future.
Keep us updated and post a pic of it .
Cheers
Eric
