wmw 350 or 455

hey everybody I'm new to this site. got a situation I have a 83 olds with a 350 from a 78 cutlass with smog heads. I want to get in the 400hp area and maintain streetability. do you guys think I will be better off with this engine earlier #7 heads and a girldle or just go with a 455 I already have the 350 in the car

Welcome to CO. I will leave the answer to some of our engine builders, however you may not get an answer here on this introduction forum. Might be better to re-post your question in the small block forum and give a few more specifics such as your budget and intentions.

I'm no expert, but I would do the 455 and leave the 350 in the car till the 455 is done. That way you can still drive it while the 455 is being built. The 350 you have is not the best starting point for the kind of power you want, and will just end up costing you much more money in the long run.

x2 easier to make more power with a larger engine.

It should be easy to make the 350 fast even with your stock stuff.... if it is nice and round still.

Get a nice valve job& bowl blend, mill the heads down for 10.5:1 compression, Get an edelbrock rpm intake, a cam in the range of 230 duration @ .050, and a set of headers and you should be around 375 horse.

If you don't want to run that high of compression, a 455 with 9:1 should get you around the the same range.
