Proud new owner of a 71 cutlass supreme

Hi Everyone,
My name is Ed and I recently purchased a 71 Cutlass Supreme.
Nice one owner car with 76K miles. I have already learned alot from the posts I have read and am proud to be a member, but I coud use some help with a installation of a Pertronics ignition.I read in a post that the easiest way to connect to the coil is to run a fused wire from the ignition spade on the fuse block. my question is what gauge wire do I use and what amp fuse? Also does this eliminate the the existing ignition wire that is connected to the coil?
Thank in advance for any info on this matter.I have attached a couple of pics
hope you guys like them

Welcome to the site, very nice low mileage car. Which Pertronix do you have as some may/may not require a ballast resistor or can run off the resistance wire.

I have the Ignitor . The car does not have a ballast resistor that I can find so I am assuming that it is a resistor wire and I do not know which wire it is or at what point in the system that it gets connected

Correct. There are two wires connected to the + side of the coil, a yellow one and a black one with a pink or orange stripe. The latter is the resistor wire and it runs from the coil to the firewall connector.

I have a yellow and what appears to be a black wire with no stripe on it connected to the positive terminal of the coil I did find a black wire with an orange stripe but it is not connected to anything(appears to have been cut) the coil clearly states that it needs outside resistance and the car starts and runs fine.there is also what looks to be a condenser attached to the coil

Once you've installed the unit, leave the remaining wires on the coil + terminal and connect the black wire from the Pertronix to the coil - terminal. Run a separate 14 ga wire from your ign terminal in your fuse box to the Pertronix red wire, your done.

No that terminal is already fused. With FT coil remove the existing wires from the coil+ terminal, tape them up and hide in the wire bundle in case you want to back to points. Connect the 14ga and the red module wire to the new coil+ terminal and the black module wire to the coil-, your done.

Yes, the ign terminal at the fuse box should provide power in both the start and run position of the key positions.
