please help - looking at car now

The last 6 digits on the cowl tag are supposed to match the vin, correct?

Thats numbers on the cowl tag are just a Fisher body number, they do not relate to the VIN at all. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the quick reply, you helped a lot. I researched all the casting numbers and transmissions, did not see this before on here.

If you said the year and model car I'm sure some guys could tell you what the body plate should be. Numbers matching usually refers to the VIN and the part of the vin that is stamped on the engine and transmission showing they all came from the factory together.

You are right, I just wanted to be sure something wasn't screwy with the VIN vs tag. It is a 70 442. I verified the 396021F block casting, and exhaust manifolds. Heads were 'J' and intake manifold was wrong number, so took more off price. It pays to verify things and not take someone's word for it. Can I buy the proper 'E' heads? If so, can someone tell me where?
