Which Parts go in 1st?
im new to the site I own a 71 cutlass supreme sx...the body man took parts apart to paint. Now im piecing some of the front end together...to help with time and less work which parts go in order? plastic pieces around headlights? grille? bumper? stone shield? and can I also buy the fastners and screws at local hardware stores or auto stores rather then spending an arm leg at places like yr one fusick opgi? lol im sure they have gotten there money from me already

Welcome fellow SX owner. Best thing you can do is spend $25 for the 1971 assembly manual or download the pages you need at wildaboutcars.com. It will show you everything you need.
The ideal order is headlight housings, then stone shield, then grilles, then bumper, by the way. Just be careful when installing the bumper - that's a lot of fragile plastic and new paint to watch out for.

Use painters blue tape on your new paint. You can avoid a nasty scratch, & it peels right off. Try not to buy the cheap stuff it doesn't come off as good. Scotch Blue works great I would tape parts of the bumper that chrome is easy to scratch during install. Good luck

All the info is GREAT! Thanks everyone I'll order the screws/fastners, put it together in order, use tape to keep it from messing up chrome/paint, and hopefully upload some pics by the weekened! Thanks

Factory 455/cut out bumper like 442 are the major destinations. In 70-71 I think it was the only way to get 455 although i think the 442 had a package for it and Pontiac was also producing a 455. Check out sx455.com

Here's the pic of the front end

Poor post
Why did you mention the Pontiac 455? What does that have to do with the discussion and then why not mention the Buick 455?
You think the 442 had a package for what? Sorry I know you meant well but posts like this just leave me shaking my head.

Looks good so far! Don't forget the hood trim that goes over the grills. Exhausts are a personal choice, but 2.5" is a great size. I favor Gardner exhaust for original look and sound.

I also asked you to explain your post since your post made no sense and still does not. I still have no clue what your friend's 455 HO car has to do with anything so I will just drop it.
Welcome to the site and enjoy your car.

1. The 1971 SX package automatically got the 455 and dual trumpet tip exhausts and bumper.
2. Not all 1971 Cutlass models with 455's got dual exhaust and cutout bumper. The L74 455 required the N10 downturned dual exhaust package and standard rear bumper.
3. Yes, 442 for 1971 came standard with a 455, and same true dual exhaust system as W30 and SX packages.
4. Olds, Pontiac and Buick all produced 455 engines. I believe Dave was confused about how the Pontiac statement came into the equation when you were talking about the 442 package and 455. Clearly all you were intending to say is that other brands of GM were also producing 455's, but we already knew that. So, IMO that's the source of the confusion - lumping it in without any previous lead in about your buddy's car.

Well its in the shop! 2.5 Magnaflow (thats what the shop had) pretty expensive! lol, Im looking at replacing the windshield any ideas on places to buy, im thinking of OPGI or FUSICK, can anyone also put a pic of the lower rocker moldings for the doors? my stainless pieces have been polished and each of them have a single screw hole drilled through them im hoping they are suppose to have that (looks like previous owner did it himself) I can live with one hole but am just interested in knowing, U guys have been very helpful I cant get this information anywhere else. Get glass at a glass shop - not from a repro store. One of the lowest price glass shops I can think of is Auto City Classics

Local glass shops around here will come to your location & install a new windshield for like $275.00?? Like Allan said, shop local, it will save you money.
The wide stainless pieces are pretty easy to find in good condition, the pot metal ones, not so much. Again like Allan said, they reproduce those for about $60.00-$70.00 each I believe?

[QUOTE=Allan R;693551]I think this is the source of the comments..
1. The 1971 SX package automatically got the 455 and dual trumpet tip exhausts and bumper. Correct
2. Not all 1971 Cutlass models with 455's got dual exhaust and cutout bumper. The L74 455 required the N10 downturned dual exhaust package and standard rear bumper.
You might want to recheck the 71 info. L74 is the option code for the 350 4bbl in 1971. The only way to get a 455 in a Cutlass in 1971 was by the SX package which was only available on the Cutlass Supreme hardtop and convertible. In 1970 in the first part of the model year, could you get a 455 in any Cutlass or as part of the SX package in a Supreme hardtop or convertible. The SX package continued on through out the model year, however with the absence of 2bbl engines. Again in 1972, you could get a 455 in any Cutlass.
Nice to see another SX being restored and appreciated. You have 1 of 1820 hardtops produced for that model year.

Looks like the stainless pieces for the door are 100% in tact must have just been a broken stud in the door so the PO used a small screw to hold the fastener to the door, i found these fasteners on fusick are these the correct ones for mounting the moldings? http://www.fusickautomotiveproducts....number=DCM701S
I had to replace the passanger side door which didnt have the studs for the moldings, does anyone have any advice as to how to attach the fasteners to the doors?

Not sure about that clip. I have an OEM in the shed I can check later. As far as attaching the molding clips you'll likely have to drill holes and pop rivet the fasteners in place. The original clips were held in place on T mounts that were factory welded in place - something you don't want to do with your new paint.
