Newbie to the Classic Oldsmobile site. Been a fan of Oldsmobiles all my life from my first car, a 1950 Rocket 88, my 56 Olds convertible cruiser and my 66 Olds 442. How much fun was that car, cruising the main on Saturday night, shutting down the goats, Chevys and everyone else who thought they could run.
Well life goes full circle. At the ripe age of 77 I find myself the very proud owner of a 1950 Rocket 88. My one disappointment is that it doesn’t have the original 303 Rocket V8 but a 455 c.i.d. 442 engine. Talk about blended.
Welcome to Classic Oldsmobile. While the 303 was powerful back in the early 50's and original, the 455 in any form is twice as powerful. 1957 and 1958 J-2's were a popular improvement. You did know the car had a newer engine before you bought it ?
I have a '49 Olds Club Coupe "project" that I am pondering which powerplant to use. I have a spare J-2 with a Jetaway315 and a spare 455 engine. I may end up with a 425 and a 4L80E.
