Newbie, new car

I bought a 57 Super 88 this week and find I need this site! It's all original and has survived it's life in Minnesota. It was purchased in St. Paul and I am the 5th owner.

I'll post a few pictures when I can.

Some pictures

Not the greatest pictures.

I fixed, OK, troubleshot, my first issue yesterday. The car wasn't shifting properly. It only seemed to go through two gears in Drive. I tried the other settings, S (for Super supposedly, not second, and L), and they were very strange shifting.

I got my original manual delivered from a guy on eBay on Saturday. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch, but all of the troubleshooting spots kept mentioning Throttle Valve adjustment. After scanning the pictures and trying to understand, I thought I'd take a look. Well here the rod connecting to the carb was just laying there unattached. I connected it up (didn't have the odd looking clip, and used a piece of wire) and took it for a spin. All four gears are back and operational. Whoo-hoo! Score one for the newbie!

Perhaps someone knows the nomenclature of the clip I need?

That is an awsome car! The clip you need is just part of the throttle valve linkage. You can probably get one at your local auto parts store. When I had an Edelbrock carburetor on my 64 98 with the Slim Jim Rotohydramatic I had to buy an aftermarket kit of carburetor linkage parts. I think it was made by Edelbrock or Holley. It came with various linkage parts, clips, and stanchions (the part the clip hooks onto). It was only about $15 for the kit.

Great pictures. I like the color and the interior looks to be in great shape. The 57's are great drivers and the 371 engine has plenty of power to get you around. Glad you solved the shifting problem. Now you can enjoy the rest of the summer cruising.
