Newbie from Germany

Hi evrybody,
I purchased an 73' Olds 98 Coupe last year, so I'm still pretty new to the materia. The car was originally sold new in Maryland, I guess (according to the last american title which dates back to 1982) and shipped to Germany four years ago. I'm the second owner on this side of the atlantic. It's my first "american iron", and man....I love it! The colour is probably "Omega Yellow", but I'm not sure because the VIN won't tell. Maybe somebody can tell me? I'll try to post some pictures.

Welcome to the site, it looks to be in great condition. We have quite a few Olds owners in your part of the world.

Welcome to the site.

That is a nice car and very comfortable to ride in.

Your color code would be on the cowl tag. Yes it looks like Omega Yellow, code 51.

Take a picture of the tag and somebody can tell you what the other numbers mean if want to.

Guten Tag. Welcome. I remember those cars. They were boats when i was a little kid. Try to find a parking space here in NYC is not going to happen. Good luck with your car.

Hi,
thanks for your quick answers! I will check the tag. Talking about parking space...though I'm living in a rather rural area in north western Germany, I really have to plan my trips with the car. The average parking lot was designed for something rather "Golf size" than "full size".

The color is not Omega Yellow for the simple reason that any color with the name "Omega" in it was specific to the Olds Omega only. No VIN has ever given the car's color so far as I know.

See this 1973 Olds color chart. Note the three colors at the bottom of the list.

I had a '73 Custom Cruiser that I sold last December, and this car looks to be the same color as my car was. The color is called "Honey Beige," and it's the fourth one up from the bottom.

Here's a photo of my car.

Compare to the OP's car:

The cowl tag is under the hood. It will be close to the brake master cylinder, fastened by two rivets. You'll see numbers stamped in it. Show us what that is.
