Very happy to have you two with us. Did you find your car in Europe someplace or have to get it from over here in the USA? Welcome to CO.

Nice-looking car. How many miles on it?

I've got a '67 Delta 88 convertible. Doesn't mean I know anything, but is there anything specific you need help with?

Is your car now in Germany, by the way? How did you get it there? Did you drive it or have it hauled to the east coast and then put on a ship to Europe? I'm just curious how and how long it takes to get a car from Texas to Germany. Also, if you're willing to divulge the info, what did it cost you to get the car across the ocean?

Talking Welcome!

So... guess I'll start out as the 1st of the German users to reply to the thread.

As you can see by my avatar, mine's a '65 442 "post".
Wo kommt ihr her? Ich bin zwar Ami, wohne aber zeit 38 J. in Deutschland, hab' ein Haus in Idar-Oberstein (RLP).
Schaetze, 63 convertible, croozer u. andere werden sich bald melden!

Croozer is trying to put a email list together, so you could PN him with yours. There are already tentative plans for some of us to get together at a meet next spring.

Bis spaeter!

Hi @ all!!

Thank you all very much for the warm welcome!

We were in the states to buy a classic car and started our trip in Texas. The Olds was the first car we looked at but I was love from the first view. We looked at a lot of other cars before we decided to take that "beast"
We drove it all the way through the wild west from Texas to L.A. and it was a beautiful ride through your wonderful and amazing country. We love the States!
Now we are waiting because the Olds is on his way. And it would be a after christmas present (hopefully he will arive before new years eve).

Don´t worry guys, we will treat you with questions to solve our problems

Best

Ben

Wow. Isn't that the wrong way?

Is it going by boat across the Pacific?

OK, let's see what I can do with this.

"Where are you from?" (or "Where do you come from") "Indeed, I am a Yank (American), however, I have lived for 38 years in Germany. I have a house in Idar-Oberstein (RLP)."

(RLP is an abbreviation for Rheinland-Pfalz, one of the German states.)

Schaetze, 63 convertible, croozer u. andere werden sich bald melden!
"Treasures, 63 convertible, croozer (all usernames, I presume) and others will soon announce themselves!"

Bis spaeter!
"So long" or "see you later."

How'd I do?

Thumbs up

D@mn! Actually, very well! Only real mistake was that the word "Schaetze" can also mean I think/anticipate/believe that (users).....
Only other thing was that I'd maybe use come online or something instead of announce themselves, but that's just a matter of preference!
You must have spent some time in Germany yourself & took the trouble to learn the language (& probably a fair amount about culture/history, too!).
Unfortunate more don't take advantage of the opportunity while they're here!

In these parts, L.A. means "Lower Alabama" a.k.a. the Redneck Riviera

Ahh, Google. I wish all of that were true.

I took one year of German in college 30 years ago, and that helped me translate the "38" to "38."

What I did above took five minutes at one of the many language translation sites on the web. Google's own "I-Google" site is great for this.

http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en&referrer=ign

I had no idea what "RLP" meant, but I just googled "Germany RLP" to find out what relationship "RLP" has to Germany and found what it meant in the 4th or 5th hit.

Isn't it nice? You can be just about anyone on the web. For example, I can be a nice guy, when I'm really not.

Tina and Ben,
welcome to this site, and be sure to send me your e-mail. I am going to set up a e-mail list of the Oldsmobile owners here in Germany. Which shipping company did you use to get the car shipped to Germany, or do you ship it through the Netherlands as I did?

Hi Ralph,
I am setting up the e-mail list. I guess I don't have yours Ralph, send it to me via PM, and tell the other Germans here they should send me their e-mail address, too, via PM.

And Ralph, how much did you pay for shipping, it cost me around 1800 Euro (2006)
