Smile A newbie from Delaware

Hey all... I've been spending a lot of time reading on this site and it is great. I used to ride around in a 69 442 when I was in high school (it belonged to a friend). I've missed that car since high school. Back in November of 2010, I passed a red 71 Cutlass Supreme Convertible for sale and couldn't resist. I talked to the owner, looked it over, test drove it and bought it.

The first work I did was the brakes in the front (power discs, from the factory). While I was doing those, I realized the ball joints were bad and they were welded into the LCA's. After a bunch of cash and an order from OPGI, I got new LCA's and new ball joints. I put pics of some of the work in.

I've got a ton of questions, but I've already gotten so many answered on this site that I figured it was time to join and post a few things.

Mark, where are you in Delaware? Did you go to high school there?

My car is from Kent County Motors.

Wow! I can't believe how many folks responded to this post! I had no idea there were other Olds nutcases (like me ) out there.

So I am totally new to working on cars like this (used to the ones with computers, FI and OBD II). Anyhow, I got the car on a deal from a guy who just wanted to sell it. The top's bad (supposed to be GM white, is sorta' gray with brown spots), so I imagine that'll be a project for the summer. I'll keep posting as I go through the process.

Someone asked me about the calipers - I rebuilt them myself. They turned out pretty good for a first attempt (no leaks!). The castings were still very good, so I replaced the pistons, seals and everything else and reused them. Pics are attached. I didn't want to take a chance on remans...

High school? I went to school "down south" (in Southern DE), but was up in Northern DE pretty often. That was a while ago, though...

If anyone knows of a local Olds or even local classic club, I'd like to hear about it.

-Mark
