Why
Why would someone add so many 1971 features to a 1972. The halo vinyl top and the wide body mouldings were used in 1971. They would take a lot of man hours to add to a 1972.
Have you had a close look at your VIN tag and your body tags? Something just does not add up on this car.

Honestly, I don't care, the gentleman that a purchased the car from had numerous amounts of parts for 70-72 olds in his garage. the front fenders and left rear quarter panel were all replaced in 93 this was a frame off. The numbers match. Please drop the subject, this was supposed to be welcome forum and I'm to the point of closing the page because of it. don't like the car don't respond to my post. the other is to like the car and move on.

You are totally missing the point. The car looks fantastic & I am happy for your purchase. Please enjoy the car.
The point that you missed is that someone went to an unusual amount of trouble to make a 72 look like a 71 & that seems suspicious. If it was me I would be checking to make sure that the car is legit VIN wise. If you care less that is fine as it is your investment. IF the VIN tag has been swapped you will thank me for my persistence. I hope that it has not been.
Enjoy your car & welcome again to the site. Thread closed for me.

is it possible the body was put together and sat for a period of time before final assembly on the line. My understanding(and please correct me if wrong) between these two years and build dates a lot of striking was going on. Body built in one plant shipped to another is it possible for that much time lag to produce a 71 body but have a 72 vin. your guess is as good as mine.

A mystery is a difficult thing to let go. However, stats5, life is too short to worry over things that don't matter to you. If you haven't purchased the car to restore and resell, then don't give it another thought. I don't know if there are legal issues attached to this or not but....
Don't let this rob you of the joy of hanging around here at CO. They really are a fun bunch of guys and gals. And knowledgeable as all get out.
I'm still jealous of that color

lol it has brake issues so I backed it off the trailer into my garage. because of the master/booster issue I already got a front disc conversion for it. I am in the middle of finals week so my car time is spent here..
as far as the 71-72 thing now I am curious about it it might just be a rarity that just adds to the conversation of the car..and thanks for your reassuring words

No long gone and the stickers under the hood are repops he said. The rivits on the cowl tag look to be original but the vin tag there is a almost a "frame" on the dash pad and the only visable part is the number itself

I like how you think left him a message, he also has lots of extra trim and chrome seats and consols and a glass hood for this car too I want to get. but I will keep everyone posted.
