Just purchased a 66 442 convertible the information that I found on this site helped me authenticate the car and hopefully the original engine. The car was produced on the 4th week in May and the heads were cast May 16th I could not see the date of the block I believe it should be just right of the distributor however I am not as flexible as I use to be.

 

Likely to have 88 (Mar 29) as a casting date. You are right on the location of date code.

I have a cast date on the passenger side head of 136 and 137 on the drivers the car was manufactured 05D. 136-88 = 48 that would imply that this engine was from a car manufactured 48 days after the fourth week in May?

 

Head casting numbers of 136 and 137 would be May 16 and May 17. That precedes the build date of your car. What is the engine unit code stamped on the front surface of the passenger side head? Should start with the letter V.

The engine unit number sounds good for your build date. I have a 66 442 that is a 5A build with V116648 engine unit number. Henry
