Newbie-72 442 Convertible

Hi all....I bought our 72 Olds at auction in 2006. I wanted to do a father son project with my son before he took off for college (he was half way through his junior year in high school). We did a complete body off restoration took the frame down to bare metal and brought it back to original factory paint. Almost everything that attached to the frame was either rebuilt or replaced, new SS fuel and brake lines, new fuel tank, NOS coil springs etc... Rebuilt the rocket 350, 30 over, lunati cam, mondello roller rockers etc.... Project took about 14 months. Son's now in junior year at college, deal with him is I hand him the title to the car as he walks off stage with his diploma. Until then I keep paying the bills and keep upgrading the Olds.

Last weekend took out the "power bench seat" and installed a set of buckets out of a 72' Cutlass I bought on ebay. I also bought a 72' console but it came with an incorrect shifter. I'm trying to identify the shifter to see if I can sell it and buy a correct 70-72 model. If anyone thinks that they can help identify the shifter I would welcome the help. If anyone is restoring one of these beauties I have plenty of material that I gathered during our restoration and would be willing to share any information or knowledge, just ask. I'll post more pictures and get more active. I look forward to meeting all of you fellow Olds Freaks.....Pete

Wow!! What a beauty!! Welcome to our site. Getting handed the title to that would be quite an incentive!

You and the boy have created one sweet head turner. Now, can you hand him the keys and know it will come back in one piece?

Really nice work! Looks super impressive. What kind of hood did you go with (manufacturer)? It looks like it fits very nicely.

Welcome, very nice, now what are you going to get for yourself?
I just finished my Vista a couple of weeks ago, now I want a power bench seat.
My daughter just finished her first year of school, I'll probably have to sell the car to pay for more college eventually.
Hand him the keys after he gets a job, house, and garage to park it in.
I would just be cruisin' and living down the basement for as long as I could.

Ive been drooling over the pic, the paint is beauteous.

Is that an original OAI hood?
I don't want to be critical but I couldn't help noticing that it's sitting a little proud of the stone shield but lines up with the fenders? Did you shim between the hood latch support and stone shield and adjust the ends out like the CSM says to do or is it shimmed/adjusted and that's as close as you can get with that hood?
I just wondered if that's common or not, I know with some parts like that you get what you got and can just get it as good as you can. I just finished my Vista Cruiser so that's all still fresh in my brain, in six months I won't remember how I did it.
