Newb with a 72 cutlass supreme

Hello all and thanks for the warm welcomes!

So picked up a little project on a trade. 43k original miles numbers matching. Alot of mods, mirrors everywhere and useless lighting. Lol. Got in the the ghetto. So it's sitting up on 24s, which will be up for sale or trade. (Not knocking donks if that's what your into but it's just not my style.) I am the type to appreciate any and all car enthusiast, I personally have a 68 goat and I figured this would be a great project for the little brother. Anyhow just getting into it a bit. No rear brake lights, hazards, or signals. But I do have running lights. I do have front signals. I have no working dash lights, heater, or wipers. Now, previous owner said wiper and heater have a blown fuse. But said there may be a short in the wiring for brakes lights. So where do I start? Fuse box? Brake switch? Harness? Getting under the car the wiring looks pretty darn good.

Welcome to the site, I'd check fuses first.

Well checked fuses. Seems like everything looking good.

I was told that 9 out 10 it's a multi function switch or signal switch. Could this be true? I don't want to drop the cash on one of i don't need too.

How far back does the harness from tails go?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

I also need a passenger door as it filled with bondo. So is there other Gm models that I can get doors from? Like a Monte or other cutlasses from 68-72? Like I found doors from a Monte locally and I wasn't sure they would work
..Or is it much like most all Gm A bodies have transferable parts?

Actually is the supreme still considered an A body?

Yes, the Supreme is still an A-body since only the roofline and quarter panel sheetmetal are different than its fastback brethren - everything else besides trim is identical with the same wheelbase, etc., unlike the larger Monte Carlo and Grand Prix.

Any 70-72 Cutlass door will work. 68-69 Olds, 68-72 Chevelle, Skylark and Lemans doors have very different contours and will not interchange.

Also check the contacts in the brake light sockets. They are spring loaded and can get water and corrode. When I bought my 72, I had the same issue of not working. The wires go through a rubber or vinyl sleeve that can get brittle. That wire has to be able to move in and out as the contact goes down when you insert the bulb, and then pop back up and make contact with the bulb contacts. Loose contacts might work intermittently.

Thanks! So does that mean any part is interchangeable?

70-72 supreme are all interchangeable, most 70-72 cutlass s parts are interchangble. They are obviously not all the same different tai lights, bumpers, seat patterns etc but all interchangeable.

Thanks. I will definitely look into it. Didn't think about that.

That ain't gonna happen. The factory grilles take up a lot of space.

True. Well i tackle that later. Maybe spring. I want to get her road worthy. Does the 72 supremes have a inner rocker panels? Or just what we see from outside? This guy just filled it with bondo. Man oh man, I'm glad I traded. I wouldn't have spent more than 3g on this. Yikes.

My list just keeps growing.
Rockers
Lower doors
Lower fenders
Electrical issue
Fuel lines
Freeze plugs
Trunk lid

This.is.going to get costly.

Anyone got a any spare parts lol
