New one from Germany

Hi there,
my name is Michael. I'm from Germany and i just brought a 1970th Oldsmobile Delta 88 from California a few month ago.
the car came on January the 8th. It's in real good condition, unfortunately i have a problem for the German inspection.
the aircondition isn't working. i can not change from floor to windshield.

maybe someone can help :-)

so hope to have a nice time with all of you in this board

best regards
Michael

PS: Pics comming soon

Welcome to C.O. Well the issue is not with A/C? Given that the blower won't switch from defrost to vent or floor? More likely a vacuum issue, if one of the prior owners or mechanic did the heater core, they may have pinched or left a vacuum line off?

Ask me how I know! I did mine and pinched a vacuum line between the heater box and the fire wall. Had to loosen up the box and pop the line out!

hey, thank you. you are right, it must be a vacuum issue. normaly when i push the swithes i hear the vacuum working. but here you can't hear anything. looks like there is no vacuum at the system.
do you have an idea which line comes from the engin to get the vacuum??

sorry, but you see my english isn't that good. but i'm still working on it

Here is a link to the service manual, this should help you track down your vacuum problem! FYI your English is not to bad!!!

Your English is fine
Consult the Chassis Service Manual as set forth above.

Start with making sure your vacuum reservoir on the firewall above the engine- a black plastic roundish can- is getting vacuum from the engine by way of the larger hose, and is providing vacuum to the controls inside the car via the smaller hose,

From there, it's a matter of troubleshooting, using the service manual to determine if every hose is attached to the right port at each end, and that the flapper doors and what not are working when supplied vacuum.

You can print pages from the online manual, or buy a paper copy of the 30cm thick original manual.

Pretty dang strict inspections, I must say.
Here in Michigan, very little needs to work right to be considered viable as a car. Heat? Nah.
Wipers are required, but no one ever INSPECTS for proper operation.

Michael, welcome to CO. I agree that you most likely have a problem with the vacuum controls under the dash. I don't envy you though, getting under the dash, upside-down and on my head always hurt my back. Good luck in finding the problem.

Hi,
thanks to all of you.
special thanks to "1970cs" for the manual.

unfortunately i figured out, that the vacuum controll modul does not work. but with the manual i was able to bridge the system and now the fan blows to the windshield
while i was remounting the dash, the red "amp"light came on... the alternator broke down
luckily the previous owner put a new one into the trunk. so i replaced it.
last monday i had the date for the inspection - and the old lady passed !

so now there is a "new Olds" rollin' down german roads ! - time for summer

again thanks for the help
so here a pcs from the old lady...
btw.- the police cruiser in the backround is my daily driver

best regards
Michael

No problem Mike, like most people on this site we try to help when ever the knowledge is there.

Also the car looks to be in great shape, enjoy your Olds!

Welcome to the site Michael! I'm glad to hear you were able to get your "new" car inspected.

WOW, that's a lot of car right there....looks great! That must have been some effort to get that car from California to Germany! Seeing that baby rolling through the German countryside would be a real treat. I'm sure most people will have no idea what it is.

I wish you many miles and smiles with your Olds! Enjoy!
