New to Oldsmobile

Hello , I am new today and can see from scrolling that you have some great and knowledgeable members.
I am pretty good with Fords and okay with Mopar but, needing help with my new purchase (trade really) a
66 Cutlass Convertable.
I was online looking at vin Identifiers but really didn,t get far as the vin on the Proteco plate is 12 digits and starts with a 6....
Its a Canadian car possibley made here?? but i want to be sure of that and other things .
If i drop the 6 it makes alittle more sense as the convertable code (67) then lines up.....

I have a few more questions but just wanted to say hello

Post photos of the VIN and cowl tags and we can help decode them. Canadian built cars DID get unique VIN tags in the mid-60s and a 1966 Canadian-built car will have a VIN that starts with "6". The VIN tag will also say "G.M. CANADA", so it should be pretty obvious if this is a Canadian-built car.

All Really helpfull stuff

This is the only pic that paints a bit of a picture , I bought the car pretty well in the dark so took many close ups of critical area's but not much post worthy
I will get a good pic when the rain stops ... which could be a few months ... i live in BC
Now to figure out motor

manual says its a 330 or a 400 in this year .
Its Gold and Wide ... but some of the parts service records quote 5,7 (i think its a good thing those weren't motor work invoices )
Could it be a 90 degree 350 motor?
Thanks again

The only factory-installed engine in a 1966 Cutlass was the 330. Base engine was the RPO L74 high compression 330 4bbl with 320 HP. The L73 low compression 330 4bbl with 310 HP was a no-cost option. The 400 only came with the 442 package.

You should be able to get all the option info for your car from VVS if it was built in/ or imported into, canada

Maybe someone has a pic of a 330 motor?
Mine looks like a 455 with a super wide manifold and narrow valve covers

Welcome aboard! There is a series of numbers cast into the engine block on what is commonly called the porch. This number series will enable you to determine the original factory size of the engine block. This is the area forward on top of the engine block and between the water pump and the intake manifold. It is where the oil fill tube and the oil pressure sending unit are located. In addition, you will find either a number or a letter cast into the cylinder head forward over number one cylinder on the driver's side and rearward over number eight cylinder on the passenger side. What we call the small block series has a number cast there and what we call the big block series has a letter cast there. That number or letter will determine the year or range of years that those cylinder heads were used by the factory. The only big difference between the two engine series is the deck height of the engine block. Valve covers are basically the same as the external dimensions of the cylinder heads is the same regardless of series. One other major difference is the lifter bank angle if a camshaft change is desired. Except for the 1966 and 1967 442 and Toronado motors, all 1966 and earlier blocks regardless of cubic inch displacement utilize a 45 degree lifter bank angle and all 1967 and later motors utilize the more common 39 degree lifter bank angle as do the afore mentioned 442 and Toronado motors.
