New to Olds forum

Not necessarily new to car hobby but new to classic Oldsmobile. Just bought a 1955 Olds 88 four door hardtop. Car sat in a garage since 1978 and is a one owner car. Still had the plastic on the back seat. Working on mechanical issues now, and may keep the patina paint.

Welcome to CO. Lots of smart people here. From the pic, it looks like a 4 door sedan not a hard top.

I'm not sure about the '55 model year. But, '56s were definitely also built as 4-door hardtops. '57s were even optionally built as 4-door hardtop station wagons.
That's a nice color. Even though I tend to dismiss patina culture as one which is poverty-stricken, a coat of clear on this one wouldn't look bad

Welcome! Very nice looking car.

Here is a link to a 1955 Oldsmobile brochure that will show all the different models and their names. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the site Fred! I'm over in Medford down in Southern Oregon. There's a few other members here in Oregon, Tedd is in Northern California and he has a 1955 Convertible.

Welcome aboard. You know that color was very popular in the fifties, Kinda of a shocker now days.
Let me be the first to suggest you drop on down to the vintage forum where a bunch of fifties guys and gals hang out. They are a very knowledgeable group and most any issue you have can be addressed there..... Lost in the fifties... Tedd

Yeah, I was thinking about a satin clear coat and maybe lowering it a little. Otherwise leave it alone. I’ve got a shiny car too but it’s a Buick

The 4 Dr. Hardtop model was introduced mid year of 55. No pillar between doors.

Ok thanks this “newbie” learned something. The pillar is what separates the Sedan from the Hardtop.
