Hi. I'm new. I don't know anything about cars, but I do have a red 74 Olds Delta 88 Royale convertible (I think all Royales in 74 were convertibles.) My dad and I got it about 15 years ago right before I went to college. It's in pretty good shape. Actually, it leads a pretty pampered life. Anyway, I have a few questions about how to keep it in good shape and how to handle some of the issues that occur with a 35 year old car. So, I found you. I look forward to chatting with you all and I've already enjoyed reading some of your posts and looking at your pictures. I'll send in some pictures if I figure how to do that!

Gas additive

I don't drive my 74 Delta very often. My dad said that there is something that I should add to the gas. Is that true? If so, what is it?

Many people think cars from the early 70's and below need a lead subsitute to protect the valve seats and valves from wear. I believe your car being a 74 already has hard seats so no problem. In fact if an early car is used for just weekend cruising and summer days then you won't have a problen either. You will get more input on this subjecty

Welcome. If you don't drive your Olds very often I suggest only keeping a few gallons of gas in it at most. Make sure you add Sta-Bil to the gas. You can get it at the auto parts store. This will prevent the gas from turning into varnish.
