Thumbs up New Member - '58 Super 88

Hey everyone, new member checking in. In a week or so, I'll be picking up a 1958 Super 88. I got it for next to nothing, and it needs some work. I'm new to Oldsmobiles, but not American V8s. Last few years I've spend playing around with watercooled VWs. Decided I needed a change. I look forward to gleaning information from everyone. Thanks in advance.

ps: I'll definitely be looking for parts for this thing, especially interior, if anyone has any leads. Thanks again.

Welcome, you can make a list under parts wanted. Hopefully the other members will be able to help you out.

Thanks, I'll do that once the car is in my garage and I have a better idea of what my to-do list is going to look like.

Welcome to both CO and the wonderful world of Olds! If you like chrome, ' 58 was the year!

Haha. So I've learned. Lots of it. That's ok though, it's period correct so I can live with it.

The 58 Olds and the 58 Buick were the kings of chrome. I think the Buick might have a slight edge. It seems there are not a lot of 58 Oldsmobiles on here. Maybe the chrome scares people away from them. That will be nice car and I am looking forward to seeing more pictures when you get her home.

Definitely possible. I may sell the car at some point, so I'll end up modernizing a little. Not sure I can get rid of the chrome though. Wouldn't be the same car without it.

Welcome , love the car.
Bite the bullet and redo the chrome if needed, there are getting to be very few original 58's around and they are truly the king of chrome...Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

Here's some better pics. Biggest worry is the roof rust.
