New guy to Oldsmobile game

Hey guys, just picked up an 63 f-85 for $800 that’s been sitting in the middle of no where for years. It’s pretty clean minus cracked windshield and someone messed up the trunk breaking into it. It has the original 215 but it’s missing a main cap. This one is a difficult car to find parts for!

What I would love to do is, keep the 215, beef it up a little but put a EFI carb kit on it. Paint it the original blue it was and upgrade the suspension to disc brakes and make it a really nice cruiser that you can have some fun in it also on some back roads ha.

How about using this car as a parts car and look for one that's in better shape to start with? This car needs everything, and, as you've discovered, "everything" is nowhere to be found for these cars.

Yea I was thinking about finding another one but this one is in rough shape but I have everything. The engine is being rebuilt by my dad and I have a friend that will do the whole interior for 1000. I love working on unwanted things ha. Thanks yea I’m glad I found this website! I have been finding some good information for sure!

Welcome. Did you source another main cap for your 215?

Olds64- not yet but I’m thinking of just buying a whole motor off eBay for couple hundred bucks to get it, seems like the only way of getting it

I disagree about it being a parts car. The body looks incredibly clean and straight. Where did you find it?

Parts for the 215 shouldn't be that difficult to come by -- remember, that engine had a reincarnation in Rovers and Triumphs and was in production well into the '80s.

Best of luck, and welcome to CO.

I think that car is pretty straight. Definitely worthy of resurrection. I was also thinking about the Land Rover engines. Could a main cap from one of those engines simply swap in the OP's 215? JoeP might know.

the body is pretty clean, no bondo or cancer. Only rust spot is under the back window in the normal spot for these years of cars. I found in a little desert town in California, couple hours away from me. Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing about the rover engines, but just haven’t found anything to support that yet. Any and all info is definitely welcomed!

thanks, I’ve always like the kind of different setups. I had a 69 dart with the slant six I built and a 65 tempest 4-door that I turned into a track car.

Welcome to CO! You will find a lot of good folk here.

I have always liked the lines of the 63 F-85, when it came to Olds compact cars.
