New Guy From The NW

Just wanted to take the time to introduce myself to the members here. My name is Dan. I live on the Olympic Peninsula in the Washington State. I grew up on a car lot that my dad owned and have been around old cars boats and motorcylese all my life. I have always been a hard core GM guy but will admit have owned more Chevys than any of the others. I recently just finished a rotissery restoration on a 1961 Bel Air Sport Coupe that I am the second owner of. I can post pics of that project if anyone is interested. I found this site while doing a search for infromation on the rebuild and high performance parts for 394 Olds. I have been planning ahead for my next project and acquired a 1962 Olds 4-door hardtop that I was able to pull the drivetrain from. What I have is a 394 2GC 2-barrel motor. The trany I believe to be the Slim Jim from some of the threads I have read here. The 9.3 rear has a 3L code, never seen one with a letter before always just the #, which I believe is 2:56's and a Posi as it has the tag that reads use anti slip lube. What I would like to put this stuff in is a 1954, 55 or 56 Olds 2-door post car. That I still do not have. I also would like to change out the Slim Jim for a manual 5 or 6 speed tany. I did see that Ross racing engines looks to be a good source for performance parts for the 394. I am sure I will be sourcing them for my build. Any help from the members here would be great and I hope to learn a lot. Thanks Dan

Hello, and Welcome. I would say you need the GM 5 or 6 speed trans with the standard GM pattern. That way you can check out trans-dapt for the bell housing . McCloud should still make a flywheel for you. that way you can use a GM style 11 inch or 11.5 "Borg&Beck" clutch.
Sound like you have a great idea for the car when you find it.

Gene

Thanks for the welcomes Guys...

Here is a pic of my Impala and my Bel Air and a short video of my 421 stroker when I first fired it in the car after the dyno.
