New Guy

My name is Kotton

I just bought my first muscle car. It is a 1972 Cutlass 2door holiday hardtop from what the VIN pulled up. It is badged with 442 emblems, but I haven't found a build sheet to know for sure. It is a 350V8 and auto tranny. I am excited to get into muscle cars and start fixing it up.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase. Please don't take this the wrong way, but a 1972 Cutlass with a 180 HP net 350 motor isn't really a "musclecar". It's a nice looking, nice driving car, but in 1972 this was just a run of the mill mid-size, equivalent to a Camry today. It's a great start and a great platform both for learning and modifying go get the performance you seek, but calling it a "musclecar" is a disservice to those who really own musclecars. Of course, you can make this into a legitimate musclecar with performance upgrades, and that's part of the fun of ownership. Good luck with the car and have fun with it.

Was it possible to get a 442 with a 350 in 72?
I had a 72 2dr ht S from 73 to 79, wish I'd kept that one!

In 1972 the W-29 package was available with any engine offered in the Cutlass line. You could get a 442 with the pavement ripping 160 HP 350 2bbl single exhaust motor. A dark day in the history of Oldsmobile performance.

As long as you're enjoying the car is the main thing. It doesn't have to be super fast unless you plan to race it. People love to look at these cars on the road and at car shows even if they aren't perfect. Speaking of looking, post some pictures.

That's what I had was the 2 bll but I added duals and power timed it. It actually performed pretty good.
Enjoy your car.
