Mark from RI

Hey everyone...its nice to see there is a site where there is alot of knowledgeable Oldsmobile people. Im 44 and just bought the same car i had back in my military years following high school. Im wondering if anyone out there can help me figure out what production number 1983 H/O i have, and any other info about the car would be much appreciated. The vin # is as follows: 1G3AK479XDM431292. The 9th digit has me stumped, as its an X. Book tells me an X means 6 cylinder. Doesnt make sense to me at all. The RPO code sticker has unfortunately been removed from the trunk lid, and is a total bum deal to me. Didnt know it wasnt there, until after the car had been paid for. The typical EBAY deal !! Had i known, i would have NEVER bought it. Anyway...any help as far as production # and anything else would be awesome....Thanks again !!

Welcome and post pictures!

Howdy and welcome to the forum. Is this the -exact- same car you had in your younger years or is it the same model, etc. you had back then?

Not sure but X might just be a check digit.

I had an 80 Cutlass as a kid....not a 83 H/O...basically i meant Cutlass period...not the exact vin # car or model...sorry for the confusion !!

http://www.mantei.com/index.html?1983oldsfacts Give this a look, like slantflat (Mike) says "X" is just a check digit, and the 9 preceeding it indicates the 180 hp H/O only engine.
