Making my newbie debut
Hey guys.. I have owned my 71 442 since 1990.. bought it when I was 19... over the years she's transformed a few times...now that that I'm 42 I'm looking to get her back to the way she was born.... I did a frame off 20 years ago and didn't do too bad of a job... now that I'm older and wiser... im going to take on that project again... I've been reading all of the forums for the last 2 weeks learning and educating myself.. (its been like Crack to me) lol...I plan on documenting the project in the major build forum...I want to take the winter to gather information and parts and attack her hard in the spring....I will attach a few pics and the cowl tag... any and all help and info would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to getting to know some of the guys and possibly being a help to others as well. .as far as my Id name I also like restoring triumph motorcycles...and all the good 442 names were taken ..lol

It hasn't been easy holding on to it .... I've almost had to sell it a few times...but I think I'm in the clear now..before I got it someone had brazen half quarters on in it.so both side are like the seven seas and full of bondo. One of the mistakes I made was not replacing them the right way.... so now I have to do it.. the bottoms started rusting out.. I was lucky enough to buy 2 gm fenders when they were still available so the front end is good to go..if anyone can help me with my cowl tag that would be great:

Very nice car bro, welcome to the site!!
I really like your color combo. Power windows....cool! Is it a W30 (red inner fenders)? Good luck with your build. It's gonna be sweet when you're done.

Thanks oldsman.. no unfortunatly it's not a w30... I did it up that way.this go around I'm thinking back to original. If I got my cowl tag right it's sienna brown with a white top... which I think is an odd combo but also cool in a way..

That's cool, man. If you go back original (which I applaud, by the way, and plan to do the same to mine...some day) those inner fenders will be worth a few $$ to someone. I may actually be a bigger fan of the original color combo!! Good luck with it!

ST-71: 1971 model year
344: oldsmobile division, 442 model
87: Hardtop coupe, aka Holiday coupe
G: Framingham production. This means it was never a W30 car.
BDY 79653: body number assigned by Framingham Fisher Body Works. No relation to VIN
TR 937: white vinyl interior with bucket seats
PNT 68 A: Sable Brown lower body with white vinyl roof. Obviously not the way it sits now.
C6c should be 06C: time build code at Fisher Body Works. 06 is June, C is the third week. So third week of June, 1971

Thanks allen.. that part of the mystery is finally solved.. the fender wells are repo and they never fit from the beginning..it's a 455 4spd factory air car..the more I think about the origonal color combo the more I like it.... when I got the car the intake and the exhaust manifolds were already changed.. the motor has work done to it so I don't know if going back to origonal there is going to work.... (more research) lol yes 2 frame off are not common but the first go around was done by an a mature lol ( me at 19) so basically it was dimantled and cleaned up and put back together.

Looks like someone had a similar question not too long ago.

I don't see 1 with a white top though. That would look pretty cool!!
