Hello from northern Sweden!

Back in 2005 my brother and I wanted a 1970s American car for Street use. We found a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 4dr on Swedish Craigslist with a 4bbl 455 and we were stoked. The car was pretty cheap and of course a wreck, it turned out we were the 41st! owner. Back then the brand didn’t mean much but over the years of restoration, when we used to know the car in side out, we cannot think of any other brand than Oldsmobile. Here’s a list of things we have done over the years and we have done it all ourselves except the engine machine work. Tons of information has been gathered on ClassicOldsmobile’s forums, thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge!

Engine:
Q-jet overhauled, Edelbrock performer intake, Lightly ported E-heads, Roller tip rockers, Cylinders honed STD size, New pistons – CR 9.9:1 (self measured), Hooker headers (heavily modified, especially on drivers side) 1 ¾" to 2.5” self made exhaust, JM 20/22 Camshaft, TH400 overhauled, STD rear end, STD ignition.

Frame/body:
Sandblastered, massive sheet metal work, painted dark blue satin matte. Amazing how you can summarize years of work in one sentence!

Interior:
Sewed new seats for both front and rear sofa (never doing that again), sewed a new vinyl headliner, even had to manufacture the bows cause they were non-existing..

And of course a lot of other things..

So far there have been significantly more machine shop time than driving time. Next summer we think that might change!
Any thoughts of the Engine combo? Thoughts about tuning? I guess next step is a better ignition system?!
Thanks for reading!

/Fred

Welcome, we like pictures if you don't mind. Sounds like a really nice car you and your brother put together. On the thoughts about tuning, a well setup Hei is an easy install and not that expensive. Or, you can't beat the simplicity and reliability of the points setup, just maximize your timing settings.

Better late than never!
Finally got the car out running this May! Ran really smooth with a new HEI. So nice to see it run in like 7 years. But as learnt before you might think everything is dealt with in the garage but than while driving realize there are about a dozen more things to do take care of.. Thats what its like to own and drive an old car though!
Some pictures attached below. Very proud of the own sewed sofas and headliner.
Thanks!

Nice car. Funny that it doesn't have a dome light in the center of the roof.

That's what I believe the spirit of this car craziness is all about, doing what you can yourself and being justifiable proud of the results!
Top ride !!
