Let me introduce myself!
Hello all,
After Rocketman!442 posted in this forum the other day, it dawned on me that I had never introduced myself either. I apologize for being so pretentious.
I am born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. My family taught us to work hard and play hard. I feel I do each equally well! I went back to school in 2010 and acquired a bachelor's degree in engineering. Man that was tough after all these years out of high school.
Let me start by saying that I have loved Oldsmobiles since ~1977 when I bought my first car. It was a 71 Cutlass S Gold with black top and interior. It wasn't long after that I found my first W car. It was a 70 W31 4 speed Rally Red, white top and interior. The car was wrecked bad in the rt front corner when I bought it. Right after I got the W31 I bought a 72 Cutlass Supreme, which I promptly transferred all the W31 goodies over to the Cutlass Supreme. Needless to say my dad was not happy with all the wrenching going on in his garage, but oh well. That car would move. Every time I turned the tires over in third gear I got into trouble with that car. But it was fun!!
Since then I have had many many Oldsmobiles. The current 71 442 original W25 car I have I am the second and fourth owner of it. I bought this car back in 89, sold it in 2010, then bought it back in 2015. I really hated to give this one up! it is the most complete 442 I have ever owned and did not take much to restore it.
I recently purchased a 71 442 W30 4 speed car. No documentation, but if you were to see what came with the car I think you would agree that it's an original W30. So far it's matching numbers on the engine block, tans, and body. I still need to get underneath to get the code off the rear end. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but this car should have the 3.73 gear and TO on the axle tube. This code is specific to the W30 cars so far as I know.
I really appreciate everyone's help so far and if there's any way I can help out, please do not hesitate to ask as I will help any way I can.
I really like this site, appreciate everyone's help and I look forward to continue visiting this site!
Thanks again,
John

Thank you!
71 service manual shows TO with 3.73 gears. I haven't looked under the cover yet to see what's there. It was 3.91 in 70 cause that's the axle my W31 had in it and it had the TO code.

The car in my avatar is my current 71 442. Black with black interior and black vinyl top with gold stripes. This is the car I am second and fourth owner of. The W30 I recently got is gold with black interior and black stripes.

Ok, thanks. I have a 70 4-4-2, W-30 coupe (post) with black interior, black paint and the gold stripes. I ordered it in 1970.
