Introduction

Hello, I'm Gary. Recently purchased a 72 cutlass supreme convertible. Numbers matching 455 w/ turbo 400. 3.23 posi. I've wanted one like it since high school. Was rebuilt when bought but had to be redone. It happens I guess. Anyway its better for it and still a work in progress. I put in the dynomat, had everything in the motor replaced, heads ported and blended and had it put on the Dyno. Getting 326 HP and 450 ft. lbs. torque. Morley Performance did the work in St. Louis. These guys know their stuff. Will try to add pics.

Nice rides

Thanks for the welcome. Happy to be here. Sorry I got called away earlier. Just after I posted I got a call from a carb builder in Colorado and was arranging a much needed Quadrajet unwarping.

To Oldcutlass

That Plymouth pic reminds me of back when I had my 69 Roadrunner. Miss that car tremendously. 383 magnum with stage two heads,4 speed pistol grip shifter. bought it in pieces and had motor put together by a speed shop. Only needed paint but unfortunately neglected to have it line bored and motor only lasted a couple thousand miles (very happy miles).

It's now a TKO 5 speed. Fresh 455 too. Tobin is my guy. He goes with me everywhere. You should see the look I get when I back that Cutlass out and he can't go for some reason or another. It's like, "Wait! What's going on here? I'm your copilot!" You have great ride there. Can't wait for spring. Bet you can't either!

Great looking car. Welcome. We trust you car has a U in the VIN to verify it's factory BBO status.

Are those power numbers engine or chassis dyno numbers?

Thanks. Its a numbers matching original motor and transmission car, U code in VIN. The power numbers are engine only. Have not gotten to the chassis Dyno yet. Probably will in spring.

Hi Gary,

Here's a late welcome to ClassicOlds forum. I'll have to see your car someday soon. Interestingly, I have a buddy here in St. Louis with a triple black '72 U code car. Also, I know Mike L. in Eureka

Exclamation New guy on the block

Hello people this my first post and I'm not trying to be rude but the site said that I should intro myself and this the only way I know right now. I just found this site while looking for parts for a 68 Cutlass I've had for 34 years. Bad part is I gave it to my brother who was going to go thru it but instead left it sitting out till now. Some stuff got in his way, like a wife, two kids, a mortgage, doctor bills, etc, etc. Everything is there but needs a restore BAD. Like most people from that long ago we didn't know what we had till it was to late. Thing is while surfing I came across another site that named the top ten most collectable cars and when I checked it out I found that I had owned four of them, used and abused and sold them for cheap. If I had only known. My name is Scott and I'm from Minnesota and I need some parts that I've come to find are really rare and hard to find. Ya know this sounds like an AA meeting.

Hiding it from the family?
Uh huh.

I got told the other day I don't need any more parts for my car. I just smiled and hope the delivery guy bringing more rings the doorbell and runs. I guess I have a parts addiction problem too.

cashout . Welcome aboard. You can put out the word for parts you need on this site under the parts wanted section. Also may find them under the parts for sale section. Good luck and don't forget to post pics of your project. Share, share, share.

Keegan It was ordered that way. I was looking online to see what a 72 cutlass was worth so I could make an educated offer to a person I know who has one sitting in storage and found this one. Yours is looking pretty good too. Judging by the picture I would say you got it running right too.

Gary, it is not as hard as it sounds. Lots of help from friends at CO and a good chassis manual. I would not recommend doing it unless you are ready to keep the project moving along. Seems if you ever get distracted or have to let it sit for a while it is next to impossible to get going on it again. Here is a link to my build thread. I have a lot of updating to do. The body just came back from the painter last week.
