Exclamation A.I.R lines broken off in cilinderhead

Dear people from classicoldsmobile,

First of all, happy new year for all of you! I am Jeroen from Belgium, i have a 87 Chevrolet Caprice with an oldsmobile 307 with the 7a heads. Today i removed all the A.I.R stuff etc. But the bolts of the lines at the cilinderhead broke off. Allmost every one. What can i do best about it? Can i drill in there or is there gonna fall metal in the engine?

Greetings
Jeroen Dogge

You can drill there, its the exhaust side so nothing should go into the engine.

Do you know the torque specs for the inlet manifold? I also have to replace the gasket. And ive read that it should be 40ftpounds but other people say thats way to much for a alluminium intake.

No I don't know the Torque specs. but you can probably find them on the internet for a 307 of your year engine.. I don't think 40ft lbs is excessive...

Maximum Torque is based on bolt size and grade. You'll not likely crush the aluminum, but you can strip threads on the bolt/stud or break them off if you use less than grade 5.
Find a picture of:
1. the torque sequence (order of torqueing bolts)
2. the correct torque specifications
3. whether the threads are dry or oiled.
4. washers ?

Most aftermarket aluminum manifolds torque spec is 25# starting from the outside bolts working in.
