Wink Hi from the new guy - Please help

This is my first post and would love some advice: I have a 1972 Cutlass that was built in Holywood and a 1947 Model 66(4dr). I just got my 47 and found out why the seller sold it so reasonable. It is cosmetically very nice but found a 12-14 inch crack in the block which I tried welding and then patched and the patch sealed but now have found cracks at the top of the block. The engine is junk.
My questions are: I hate to bastardize the nice stock vehicle but the wife and I want a reliable driver also. Do you think a 350 engine would be a good fit? Obviously I will need a engine, tranny, drive shaft and possibly change the car to a 12 volt system.
Would like to know if this is the way to go and what the appx time and cost would be. Untalented and older I will be hiring this task.
Any advice for this project would be appreciated. Thanks Harry

PS I was going to Springfield but it doesnt look good now!

Welcome to the site! I know several members here have put 350's or 455's into the 1950's vintage cars. I don't know how different the engine compartment is on your 1947. Pat (citcapp) has both a 1948 and 1957. Below is an old thread when Pat got his 1948. If he doesn't see this thread you might send him a PM to see if he can answer your questions.

P.S. Please post pictures of your cars when you have time. We all enjoy seeing other members cars
