Talking Welcome to CO

Lucky you, first car a 68 Olds. What a great way to start your driving experience. Is it a fixer upper or is it in ready to go condition? Tell us more and post some pictures for us to look at.

Pics and location, someone here may be nearby and can help ya with things locally.

Its a strato bench seat car two door hardtop, high comp four barrel 455, power steering, power brakes with drums all the way around, its yellow with black interior. It had standing water in it so i took the seats out and pulled the carpet and stuff out and the floor was still good only a few pin holes. It has l-78 tires in back and 205/75's up front on the stock rims, its good as far as rust goes but it has some dents here and there. I got it from a 94 year old man that got it in 1974, i paid $700 for it. I only have dial up internet so uploaded pictures takes a long time, ill try to get some up. i live in anacortes, washington

My younger daughter, who's now 21, would have died and gone to heaven if she could have been able to drive a car anything like this to school. When she was your age, it just so happened that a '75 Toronado came up for sale not too far away that would have been a perfect beast for her to drive (big, heavy, lots of metal between her and the outside world). But the Toro had too many problems, so we ended up getting her a '94 Chevy Blazer that ran fine but was knocked around enough that no matter what she hit, more damage would be done to what was hit than to the Blazer.

I need some help, when i got my car not many lights worked so i changed some lights and they some still didnt work so i looked at the fuses and found that a few of the tabs that hold the fuses in were rusted so bad they just fell apart so i put different tabs in and now most of my lights work; headlights high and low, turn signals on all four corners and brake ligts. but my running lights dont work and when i turn my headlights on the tail lights dont come on. any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

One thing that should be at the top of your gotta get list should be a 1968 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual. It will have all the service procedures incl removal, teardown/repair and replacement, and best of all full color electrical wiring diagrams.

The 68 book is a little flimsy and a lot of times pages break loose from the spine, but as long as all pages are intact it will serve you well with your Oldsmobeast.

The tail lamps fuse feeds from the main headlight switch, so it could be a fuse problem or a headlight switch problem. If you can get the h/l switch out of the dash you can spray some contact cleaner into it, which often helps an old switch.

PM me if needed. I'll walk you thru the individual circuits.
