Hello from beautiful BC

Hello, I picked up a 1970 supreme a little bit ago and am trying to use it as a daily as much as possible. It has a 350 and 3 speed automatic. It is a pretty clean car and needs a few tweaks to give me what I'm wanting as far as performance goes. Here's a pic, thanks for having me.

Welcome to the site, nice ride. People often forget these cars were once basic transportation.

Welcome aboard! My first car was a 1970 Supreme. I drove it through school and my first real job.

My 70 had the standard 2.56 rearend and at one point I swapped in a 3.08 rearend and it felt like the engine had more power. Then I swapped in a 3.55 rearend and again it felt like the engine had more power. So my recommendation is lower gears. That’s the best performance mod you can do.

Good looking car!
Will you DD it in the Winter?
I remember having studded snow tired and 200lbs of sand bags in the trunk when I drove my first 70 all winter.
Good luck!

How was it on the highway with the different gears? Foxy will probably see a lot of 60 mph plus driving to get to various events from where they live.

The 3.55s obviously had the highest RPM at highway speeds, but it was not bad at all. I did a lot of highway driving and the engine did fine at 60-65 MPH for extended trips. What was cool as all getout from a 55 MPH punch it would downshift to 2nd then chirp into 3rd.

Around town they were great. I got the same MPG as the 2.56 rear but the trans shifted through the gears and into third quicker. It had more power at part throttle / low speeds and the downshift to 2nd felt a lot better than the 2.56s.

Luckily the island doesn't see a lot of snow in the winter. A fair amount of rain but we have a few other vehicles that are able to be driven if conditions are not okay for the cutlass. It's more of a daily fun car to run errands in and drive the kids to activities etc.

We do use a ton of salt and brine anytime the weather gets within a few degrees of freezing, though. This is why I keep my "nice" cars off the road between November and April.

Welcome from just up the road and around the corner at Sproat Lake!
