Hello

Picked up my 455 &trans today, joined to get some info and maybe pick some brains. Going to be a long project , hope to get it cleaned up and replace some parts as the pocket book allows. When complete hope to put it in my 72 GMC wide body. Any tips greatly apprecated.

Welcome to the site! I've got an Olds engine in a 1979 GMC Short Wide bed, but mine used to be a diesel. The advantage of the late 1970's early 1980's diesel trucks is that the motor mounts and transmission matched the Oldsmobile gas engines.

At least in your pickup engine compartment you've got lots of room to work with! Please post pictures of your project when you have time. Yes, be sure and post whatever questions come up through your build. John

Welcome to CO

That 455 will move the pick'um truck right along. Should be a straight foward swap. You will have to fab up motor mounts as the 455 is different from the chebby engine mounts, The starter will be on the drivers side instead of the passenger side. The rear tranny mount will work with the t400 you might have to move it based on how the engine locates for motor mount install. As the say measure, measure and measure some more. before starting

Good luck
