Got the bug again...

Hey everyone,

First time posting here, but a long time vehicle addict.

I'm not new to forums, but I'm new to this one. My first car way back in the day was a '76 Cutlass Supreme with a factory Chevy 250 inline 6. The previous owner sold it to me with the old 31" tires off his bronco on the baby blue Olds Rallye rims.

I Drove what was left of that poor car all over the countryside, across fields and 4WD paths, up riverbeds and almost off a cliff once before it finally had enough, and I loved it the entire time. Several other Oldsmobiles followed along the way including a 76 Starfire, a few Cutlass Cruisers, a Cutlass or 3 and somewhere in the 200-300 vehicles I've owned over the last 20+ years, there was a 66 Starfire...

That's the one I have always wanted back out of all the different cars that have passed through my hands. I've been reading up on them a lot lately, and I came across these forums and decided to join up.

I still have the original drivetrain out of my '66, although the chassis and body were so bad (and I was moving out of state and had nowhere to store a vehicle that large) I had to scrap it back in '95.

It's the 425, line bored, punched .030 over (431 now), 11:1 forged pistons, slightly milled heads, and a Crane monster cam. It still has the original air cleaner with the Starfire plate on it, and the TH400(425?) Switch Pitch trans, along with the console, tach and T-handle shifter. That engine would damn near lift a front wheel of that massive car off the ground when it launched.

I've always had it in the back of my head that I wanted to find another '66 Olds to put it back into, because there's never been another motor I owned that has so much torque. Still haven't found the right car for it that was in my price range unfortunately. Doesn't help that I live in the rust belt...

My ID here should probably be something more Olds related, but since I've also played with and raced a few dozen VW's, and I use that ID on the VW boards I'm on as well, I figured I would just stick with it here too.

Anyhow... Hello again to everyone, and once I can get a stack of old photos to a scanner, I'll try and post a few pics of some long-gone Oldsmobiles I have had.

-Jeff

P.S. If someone that's familiar with 66 starfires could PM me sometime soonish, that would be wonderful. I have some questions about possible authenticity issues.

Welcome to CO!

I've got a 1966 Jetstar 88. Your Starfire was at the top end of the 88 styles. And my Jetstar is at the bottom end, has the 330 2 barrel. But I like it. Not really pretty right now, but it's a drivable project. Autumn Bronze with bronze interior.

Body parts are a little hard to find for the 88's. I need a right fender and front bumper for mine. Haven't had much luck. But my 67 Cutlass Supreme is my priority right now. Anyway keep that in mind while looking for a project car.

Also the 65 is is real close to the 66. I kind'a like some things on the 65's better myself. Check the for sale section. I think there's a 65 Starfire and a 66 Dynamic 88 conv. in there.

Yeah,

I saw those in there. I've been scouring the ends of the earth (well, at least the lower 48 east of the mississippi) to see what's available. Having a little luck, but haven't brought one home yet...

Welcome to CO. I saw your user ID when reviewing apps the other day and thought it wasn't Olds specific but there is no room for snoberry here. You will find a warm welcome from our members I'm sure.

Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone so far! Just trying to get the feel of the rest of the site, and hopefully get a nice big V8 olds under my right foot again sometime soon. It's been a while.
