Hello

Hello all. I've recently inherited a 64 Jetstar 88. More problems than I thought could exist. Everything is 100% stock and has less than 100k on it (barely). All miles driven by a nice old lady that couldn't bring herself to exceed 40mph. Sat for 17 years. So that's me in a nutshell. Will post pics and definitely be asking be looking for advice. Thanks.

100,000 is a lot of miles for them all to be driven by a little old lady doing no more than 40 miles an hour. My guess is that she was far from a little old lady when she bought the car.

Let's see some photos of this car. I had a '64 Jetstar 88 myself back in the '90s. Sold it in 1996.

As you'll likely get told often, the Jetstar 88 was a new 88 line for 1964 to give Olds dealers a new, low-cost 88 to sell alongside the Super 88 and Dynamic 88, both of which were also offered at the same time. (1964 was the last year for the Super 88, but the Dynamic 88 soldiered on through 1966.) The J-88 is an odd duck, though, in that, in order to be able to produce it at lower cost, while it obviously used the full-size Olds design, it used the A-body (F-85/Cutlass) engine, drivetrain, and brakes. So your car's engine, assuming it's original, is a 330 V-8 that was not available in any other full-size '64 Olds. But it was available in the Cutlass lines. The brakes are Cutlass-sized as well.

I didn't have much difficulty getting parts for mine, but that was 30 years ago, and sourcing certain items might be more difficult now. Good luck with the car.

Welcome. As noted, the 1964 J88 has a number of one-year-only, one-model-only parts that can be difficult to source today. Brake parts (except for front backing plates) are common with the 1964 Cutlass line (many vendor catalogs get this wrong). Rear axle housing and axle shafts are unique to the 1964 J88, but the center section and gears are again common with the 1964 Cutlass (the BOP 8.2" axle). Front spindles are unique to the 1964 J88. Motor mounts are unique to the 1964 J88 and are not available new. Accessory brackets for the 330 motor are unique to the 1964 J88 and are not the same as on the Cutlass. The trans is a long tail and is also unique to the J88 and Vista Cruiser of the same year. Driveshaft is unique to the 1964 J88. Trans crossmember is unique to the 1964 J88. Driver side exhaust manifold is unique to the 1964-70 full size cars with small block.
