Heat Soak fixed

After a motor rebuild and headers that damn 200lb starter just ran too hot. Car wouldn't start after running any more that 5mins. I was on the forums and diagnosed the issue from other posts having the same issue. Ordered up a high torque mini starter (11.5:1 compression was rough even cold with the old starter) New starter, no problems! big thanks to the gear heads helping out us non mechanically inclined. Much appreciated fellas.

I just re-installed my engine with new shorty headers and I noticed right away the starter and headers are a little close for comfort. Mind sharing a link to the starter you purchased? Just in case I have the same problem.

Fwiw I have ran a stock style starter for many years now with full length headers and never had an issue with heat soak.

Thats the one. Summit and Jegs said it would fit- Amazon had it cheaper but said it wouldn't fit, I ordered it anyway (same model, what does Amazon know anyway) no issues.

I've had good luck with power master starters.

The main reasons that cause heat soak issues are bad/corroded cables and wires, dirty connections or grounds.

Well that shouldn't be a problem for me then, considering I just refreshed all that. And for good measure I used heat shielding sleeves on the wires as they pass [close] to the header.

Even after new cables etc I had heatsoak. I can't tell you how much more enjoyable the car is when it starts all the time. After a year my family is still hesitant to take the car on a longer trip as they remember all the times we waited for the starter to cool off (I even kept a spray bottle on me to soak it)

I now have a Powermaster on both W30s even though the hardtop didn't have an issue - not worried about matching numbers, I'm enjoying the car. Just hold onto the original starter!!
