gm donated car
I have a 1983 olds cutlass supreme it has a decal on the firewall that says gm donated it for education purpose in 1984 a number s-772y is on the decal. this car was bought from a high trade school. parked under a carport in 1999. I got this car in oct. 2013, I have got this car running and drove it. the body is in great shape, and shows 34069.6 miles on it. how can I find out if this is a one of a kind car, the body looks to be a 442, with t tops, but it has a bench seat and the gear lever is on the column?

I knew a high school that had a GM-donated car, from around the same time.
It was a zero-mile car that had fallen off the trailer. It wasn't too dented up, but had some definite changes to the roof shape, and, I assume, would have cost more than it was worth to fix and sell.
I remember very clearly that the donation carried the stipulation that the car could never be registered, and that there was some way that the title ensured that.
The high school students stripped it and sold the parts so that the shop could buy tools and supplies.

Here's a similar story about a 1973 Olds that fell off a trailer. What I was told is that the students took turns dismantling and re-assembling the engine. John

When I was in High School we got a brand new 1978 Olds 88 that had fallen off of a train during transport. GM donated it to the school. We disassembled and reassembled just about every mechanical system on that car. One day we convinced the shop teacher to see who could break all the lug nuts loose with a four way the fastest, teacher or student. We put a four way on each front wheel and had the teacher and one guy stand at the shop safety line, we had greased the **** out of the wrench on the teachers side so when he got to it and yanked on it his hand slipped off and he just about punched himself in the face! He couldn't send anyone to the Deans office because he was screwing around too. Great experience especially for the guys that weren't all ready tearing into their own cars.
