Uhh, yeah I think I see the issue. It appears that the cam dowel rode around the gear and dinged up the edges of the dowel hole. Clean that up and hopefully it will fit together correctly.

.Try cleaning up the damaged part of the sprocket ,but only go in as far as necessary ,you dont want any play there.
Just reread this thread and see now that your old cam sprocket won't go on the pin either .so as stated use the emory cloth on the pin.go slow and careful you dont need to replace another cam

Don't forget the fuel pump eccentric, you could install the fuel pump before the cover and shoot a picture of the gear lineup for when you second guess yourself later 😎...been there. Pour oil over the chain and gears before the cover install.

Good luck!!!

Alright guys i started up the car and man it feels good and sounds great. My distributor no longer has to be advanced all the way with the vacuum advance right by the firewall😁.

I am impressed with your persistence and ability to follow this through working with people you have never met to a successful outcome.

Good luck!!!

Good to hear, it's not easy but very rewarding to get it running.

Good news. You changed out the Edelbrock carb for the Q-Jet 7042250 carb, fixed the broken bolt on the carb (vacuum leak) & fixed the no start cam gear dizzy items.

Any pictures of the vehicle which houses this 68 Olds 350 you'd like to share?
