.Try cleaning up the damaged part of the sprocket ,but only go in as far as necessary ,you dont want any play there.
Just reread this thread and see now that your old cam sprocket won't go on the pin either .so as stated use the emory cloth on the pin.go slow and careful you dont need to replace another cam

Thanks guys the dowel is good now i had to chamfer it (lightly).I would have put it back but live in an apartment(it's a daily driver and has covered parking) and it's raining too bad to go out and put it back together so hopefully tomorrow morning I'll put it all back and let everyone know how it went.😐😐 Then gotta get the distributor back on track lol i should've just let that be knowing i didn't touch it.

Don't forget the fuel pump eccentric, you could install the fuel pump before the cover and shoot a picture of the gear lineup for when you second guess yourself later 😎...been there. Pour oil over the chain and gears before the cover install.

Good news. You changed out the Edelbrock carb for the Q-Jet 7042250 carb, fixed the broken bolt on the carb (vacuum leak) & fixed the no start cam gear dizzy items.
Any pictures of the vehicle which houses this 68 Olds 350 you'd like to share?
