Welcome to CO! Nice looking ride. What work do you need to do on it?

> The carb is form a 1977 Buick... missed getting the correct 1970 carb from Ebay for just over $100 a coupel weeks ago. Maybe the 1977 Quadrajet is better than the 1970 because of the part throttle adjustment available on this later carb. I need to adjust the secondary opening (it bogs at the moment)
> In the early 90s I set up a 1970 cutlass suspension to HO-Racing specs (with 1977 camaro spindles up front, stiffer sway bars, new springs, new bushings) - It handled great! - would like to do that again and I still have a few of the parts.
> I have an MSD-6AL that was on my Cutlass a couepl decases ago, so I'll eventually add that.
> Need to add guages - I only have idiot lights. I've already added a bung in an exhaust pipe and have a wide-band O2 sensor to install along with a gauge - so I can monitor the air-fuel mixture under various conditions. A vacuum gauge and tachometer are next. - Then oil pressure and water temp.
> There is no underlay in the car. Instead of addingn the heavy stock tar paper, I expect to add dyna-mat or equivalent.
> The firewall is not sealed / I get excessive noise form the carb and engine compartment.

Get the right carb!!
The '77 carb was for a low compression, unleaded gas, choked-up converter motor, and is set so lean, it may burn valves/pistons!
It'd be hard to get that to run right on a high compression motor!
And, judging from your other post, is the reason for 'pinging'.

Only if it retains the original rods and jets. These are GREAT carbs if you know how to set them up for your application.

Nice car! Enjoy your project.

Exactly what I was thinking - So on my list is to install a wide-band O2 sensor so that I can ensure I am not runinng too lean. I figured that the APT which is par tof the 1977 Quadrajet's repetoire will allow me to adjust part throttle air/fuel ratio bette rthan I coudsl with a 1970 carb.... although I must admit that there is a certain appeal to having a 1970 Olds carb on a 1970 Olds motor. and don't tell anyone, but except for the price, I wouldn't mind a Sequential port fuel injection system or even a TBI (MSD, Holley, Edelbrock, etc.) for increased performance throughout the year (power/economy/engine life).

By the way, you have a great looking driveway
