Hi all,
I expect i will be on this site more and more as time goes on as i finally bought a car i have wanted since i was a teen.
I missed the opportunity to buy a rusty 1968 cutlass convertible that ran for $500 in 1987
fast forward years later and i have made the deal on a 1969 442 convertible, matching numbers but was taken apart by the previous owner.
I have built a couple of cars but i learn by taking them apart, so this will be a learning curve.
the car was sanded down for a colour change 35 years ago and never painted again.
it is a full blown project
looking forward to joining the community
You will enjoy this site immensely. Lots of technical expertise lives here and it is yours for the asking. I know it helped me when refinishing/restoring a '68 4-4-2 convertible and a '69 4-4-2 convertible. Have fun and let us see what you have.
Welcome..it’s a ton of work, frustrating as hell at times, will make you scream and holler in the garage. There will be times when a 10lb sledge hammer is begging you to make a mess out of your project. But you must carry on..then It will challenge your patience to the 10th power but it will be the most amazing accomplishment you have ever undertaken when it’s completed.. especially when you’re staring at the end result saying.. I actually did this.. hey congratulations and we are here to help..😎👏🏽👍🏽
Take your time and remember it won't go as fast or as easy as you think it should. It is like eating an elephant one small bite at a time.
One thing I did was hang a sign in my garage that says. "This project is 2 years ahead of schedule". No matter how long it takes I will finish it 2 years ahead of schedule.
Congratulations and good luck from another '69 442 convertible owner. Be sure to get yourself a chassis service manual, the production assembly manual and a Fisher Body manual. All for the '69 A-body. They are the instruction sheets for your project. No need to guess.
awesome and thanks for the recommendations on the manuals
my last project took 8 years, it was a time and money thing.
It was 60 vette that was in rough shape.
I definitely know the frustration that goes with it along with "what the hell have i done" lol
