Any ideas welcome

Hello everyone, I'm new to the Oldsmobile forum. I have just acquired a 1970 98 series Oldsmobile luxury sedan. I've had him for about a month-and-a-half I'm doing or I'm trying to do a full restoration the body's good the engine is good but places on the seats are not. I do not want to change the material on the seats is there any way to avoid this? I have included pictures of the the wear.

Welcome Oldschild. We would love to see pictures of you car. Everybody here loves pictures. SMS Auto Upholstery Supply is the largest company in the business. If they don't have it then you probably will not find it. Here is a link to their website.

Thanks so much, I have included some pics, they are in with my profile. I'm not very computer savvy so not sure if I did it right.

You'll get the hang of things pretty quick. Welcome to the site and from one big sled owner to another, thanks for putting new life in an Olds. Can't wait to see more photos.

Smile Loving this site

Thank you so much for the hearty welcome Oldcutlass and BTW. Everyone has such awesome cars and honestly I want to be like you guys! I have some more work to do in the engine compartment then I'm going to start cleaning him up after that more pictures will be posted. It's a slow process for me as I am learning and I have a full-time job that gets in the way. Lol

Weicome to C.O. nice car. If SMS sends samples and they don't seem to be correct, then call Original Auto Interiors, maybe they can help. SMS samples will probably match, but if not this will give you another source. Larry

Thank you Larry. I have gone on to the original automotive interior and sent in an inquiry just in case. This is a great site and I'm happy to be here.

Nice looking 98. Of course I'm somewhat partial to the big boats myself. The only problem with trying to patch just one of the areas is it will be so obvious when it's finished. There's probably a lot of fading on the original cloth. You likely don't want to redo the entire front/back, but it might be something to consider when the swatches from SMS come in and you compare new to old. I'm glad you're enjoying this car!

Thank you AllanR, I did consider this. I'm not sure of the color codes as I don't have any indicators but the seats have little fading. I'm hoping one of them will work cause you're right, I don't want to redo the the entire seat.

If you can take a picture of the body plate, many here can offer some decoding evidence. Included on that plate will be the trim and paint code. Always helpful to have a bottle of touch up in the glove box.

The data tag (aka cowl tag) is under the hood and in front of where the VIN tag is located looking from the outside. It looks like this:

The VIN tag is easier to see - same place it is on all new vehicles. It's only 13 digits long though and will start with a 3.
