75 Olds442 Shifter cable

My shifter cable apparently broke on my 75 Olds 442 with the console shifter (not a his/Her shifter). What do I need to know to repair or replace it. Thanks from newbie Oldsguyhill

Olds shifter cable

Can these be repaired or will I need a new one. If I will need a new one , who is the best source? How do you go about removing it? Can it be done from underneath the car or is it necessary to remove the console or both? Thanks! Oldsguyhill.

Welcome to CO. My experience is limited but in general I think that the cable would have to be replaced by dis-connecting both ends meaning opening up the console but I would defer to someone who has actually done it before. Good luck though.

I have to agree with oldsguy, maybe someone has done this before and can offer you better advice...I haven't done much work with a shifter cable (other than connect/disconnect) but my experience with all things mechanical is that repairing a broken part is limited by how much damage has been done vs. the cost of r2 (removing and replacing) an item. OPGI and Hemmings both offer good quality replacement parts

Thats correct it will need to be disconnected from trans, the console top will need to be removed for access to shifter that will need to be disconnected.Assuming it's broken.Nick
