Hello everyone, just learned about this forum and now I am learning how to get around this web site. I've had oldsmobiles since the 70's and still love them. I purchased a 1972 cutlass supreme (442 clone) had a 350 in it and now I'm getting ready to rebuild a 1968 455 out of a '68 tornodo.
Any ideas on what kind of intake and carburetor, don't want to go to big on a cam with hopefully the factory bore.

The Edelbrock performer is a good street manifold and either a 770 Holly street avenger or a 750 Q-jet will work nicely for your build. Lets see some pictures of your ride

I really like the stock Qjets for overall performance and street-ability. For good looks you can't beat the new Demons by Barry Grant but some people don't care for them. Of course the Holley has been around for ever in about a million different sizes and variations, if you are familiar with them then go for it, and finally the Edelbrock E series (I think) is an out of the box carb that takes very little fine tuning, I had one for a while and liked how easily the car started and idled with it but liked the Qjet better for mid range and full throttle response.

I have a 455 with the performer intake , 800 performer carb and the Edelbrock cam. lots of power all over the board. but still get good gas mileage If I keep my foot out of it

Did you just get it painted? Very glossy! I notice the badging is not there...
I sure like the bumper with the cutouts - it may be one of my future additions.
Like some of the others, I prefer the stock QJ...

Thanks for the info, could you tell me what size came you used. My fiancee and I cruise in it alot up in W.Virgina and Maryland and now it's down due to a Mustang sucked a valve in # 7 piston.

Thanks for the info, the Q-jet is what I want. I have a few gear head friends and they say , Holleys are the best. I want to put it back together, shut the hood and drive it.. Thanks

1972 Cutlass 4bbl Qjet is 7042250 for the 350. Don't know what the 455 carb is for 1972. I have a stock intake on mine. But lots of guys change it out to get better breathing.

Couple of things you inherited with this car:
1. The front bumper really needs straightening or replacement. If it's been pushed back really hard, the stone shield is probably cracked or broken. Both are an easy replacement.
2. The hood is missing the accent pieces that go over the grilles. They come up on ebay all the time for cheap. Or you can get brand new repros from (fusick) for around 60.00 a pair.

Hello Allan, Thanks for replying, I'v been trying to reply to you but I kept getting kicked out while using my lap top. About my car, the bumper was put on already bent, the stone shield has been replaced, the whole front clip (finders, hood & trunk lid) are fiberglass , the car has new quater panels then painted. The interior was alreplaced with bucket seats and a B & m shifter witch I don't like. I rather have the stock shifter and console. The car rides and handles very well, my fiancee and ride the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia alot, we enjoy cruising. Thanks Francois
