68 olds 442 convertible almost done!

Hi, i have been working on 68 olds 442 conv. for 4yrs. since i bought it .It was a hillbilly resto. I put the body on 4, 55 gal. drums so i could por15 the frame! As I am now sound proofing interior for carpet and seats to be reinstalled, top not done , no heater yet! But it runs, new 455 with all the good stuff. This is my third resto. , two 70 442 convertibles before this, sold both. When i had the 70's always looked at the 68 and said someday! That day is here, right now! Wanted to do the power tour this year but didn't have top done.Oh well maybe next year.It was so close to me this year,I live 100 miles from St.Louis. Nice to be here on this forum, don't know how i missed this sight. Will be posting alot, i have lots of 68 parts, and 70 parts just ask.

Welcome to C.O. raider. When you get the chance load some pictures of your build and the results to date. 68 is a hard to find year for some parts, glad you are keeping this one on the road.

[IMG]http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6295/8a1004333small.jpg[ Hi Mike, just read your car build! I had to laugh because we live in different places of this great country and have the same types of rebuilding fun! I have to ask ,what is the most annoying thing about the 68 to you? Mine is the door mirrors.I put the driver side on and when the window is up it is right on the glass. Is this like this on yours? I have not put the passenger side on yet because of this clearance problem.Did you do anything different ?

I think what bugs me the most is the fact that it's so difficult to fix anything under the dash. It took me about 2 hours to get my speedometer out & I'm not even sure if I can get it back in without removing the dash. The 2 little screws that hold each gauge in are next to impossible to get to and trying to get the ground wires on them to re-install makes it that much worse. I've gotten used to removing the driver's seat everytime I need to do the slightest thing under there

I looked at my mirror this AM and it's about a 1/2" from the window. Are you using a factory mirror? I have the Fusick mirrors and I drilled the holes in the passenger door in the same location as the driver's side & don't have a problem with either.

Talking How's the restore going?

I'm partial to the 68 convertible myself! I'm on the east coast (between NYC and Philly). What do I find most annoying about my 68? The darn hood only going to forehead height! I bet most 68 owners (and their friends) have an "unexplained" gash permanently across their forehead!
