68 455 W/Turbo 400 Torque Convertor Question....

Hi, I have a question, as I am putting a pretty much stock 455/TH400 into my 68 Cutlass and am curious with all that torque etc......what would be my best bet for a stall level on a torque convertor?.............Everyone says "3500" when it comes to a S.C., but this motor has a fair amount of torque to begin with, so............Any suggestions?

The stock one would work just fine for a stock to mildly modified 455. If you want to upgrade, then go one step up. I would not run a 3500 rpm stall.

Thanks.....Any idea roughly what a good mild step up from stock might be?... I know that one loses a little power between the TH350 to the TH400, so figured a little giddyup wouldnt hurt.

Hi mate, having tried both 11 inch 2400 and now a 10 inch 3000 I would advise the 11 inch with your combo to take advantage of all that low end torque. 3500 would be way too high for a stockish 455 as they make more torque than horses, good luck, Paul U.K. 10 sec Old's.DPP07DA0501140E36[2].jpg
